Dundee is at the heart of the city region and has seen strong growth in its economy over the last decade. Employment and business start-up rates continue to rise while average earnings in Dundee are four percent higher than the Scottish median.

Key economic sectors include education, biotechnology, digital media, engineering, publishing, manufacturing, telecommunications, energy, tourism, electronics, health and retail.

Key employers include Dundee and Abertay universities, NHS Tayside, Dundee City Council, publishers DC Thomson & Co. Ltd, Michelin and automated teller machines (ATM) manufacturer NCR.

In excess of £500 million is currently being spent on various capital projects within Dundee including the innovative waterfront development and the reshaping of Dundee University campus.

Dundee has one of the largest research communities in Europe with more than 2500 people employed in the life sciences sector alone.

More than 1500 people are employed in the creative industries. The sector boasts 200 companies with a combined annual turnover of more than £100 million.

A £20 million digital media park that is expected to sustain 1000 jobs is being built in Dundee.
